I lost ninety-five pounds and have maintained the loss for seventeen
years. One tool in my recovery remains the daily reading of inspirational
books. I found my library incomplete when I searched for one that combined a
twelve-step program with God as the Higher Power. The biggest secret to my
success was giving up my will and letting God do it through me. I wrote a book
of daily devotions that came from my journals and memories. This is one woman’s
road for success. I pray these thoughts help others reach the same healing God
gave to me. It’s all about God.
What inspired you to write the book, Janet?
While I was still losing my weight, I taught weight classes at
church. The last one I taught, I wrote some curriculum. It set unused
for several years, while life intervened. Then, God woke me up in the
middle of the night about 4 years ago and gave me 14 short devotions.
From that day on, I saw opportunities for devotions everywhere. I drew
from my own experiences and from nature & family situations. At
times, I felt God gave me the devotions merely to help me, but I kept
writing.
Finally, when I had finished
310 devotions, I pitched it at an Oklahoma Writers Federated Intl.
conference last May to Duke Pennell. He was starting up a new small
publishing company. He requested the full mss. Like many authors, I
knuckled down to finish the last 55 devotions. My friend and critique
partner, Sue Watson, read them all as I wrote them. Finally, I sent in
the completed work. Duke offered me a contract but said he wanted to
fast track it to publishing before Christmas.
It's been two busy months, but we succeeded in getting it ready for
print on his website for purchase by Dec. 6. I'm excited. It's truly
the story of my heart.
I want to thank Duke Pennell and Pen-L Publishing for making my dream book a reality.

Yes, I lost another me. The thing is I lost that amount before that and regained it. It took God to keep it off. Thanks for commenting. Thanks, Eileen, for letting me visit with you.
Glad to have you, Janet! Keep up the good and godly writing!
