When my brain needs a break from writing, I turn to other creative endeavors, like arranging fresh flowers from my garden.
Doing artwork. I used a combo of pen and pastels to recreate my garden peonies.
With the grandkiddos, I borrowed an idea from one of Martha Stewart's Living magazines and crafted lily pads out of coffee filters and food coloring for a children's tablescape.

For me, recharging my creative writing battery doesn't often involve doing something else. Sometimes what serves me best is to do nothing related to writing. Just this past Friday, I went to lunch with a friend just enjoying visiting. I might also read - instead of creating, I read someone else's creation. I find when I've been concentrating on writing a novel, I need a break completely. When I return to writing, it's like a fresh start. I feel boosted and ready to create again.
Wow, very creative of you! Your pastel/pen drawing is very lovely.
I enjoy scrapbooking and cross stitch. I have a double baby shower coming up, so I will be putting on my crafting hat for that. One thing I like to make is an exploding box. A mindless video game can help refuel me as well. Although, all the video games I play lately require me to think....which in itself is good. :)
Have a great week and God bless!
We're all so delightfully different, aren't we?! I love it! God didn't design any two of us exactly alike.
I have a scrapbooking friend who's started an annual scrapbooking retreat. Often, she leads the women in designing an album around a particular theme, like "My Faith Journey," or "Growing Up" so the woman's kids or grandkids can see her physical growth (with pics).
Yes, Paula, so true. And sometimes, if I've let myself get too whacked out by writing, I simply sit and stare into space for a while. If you saw me, you might think you needed to hand me a basket to weave. :)
Photography and nature walks help me to recharge, and I also love how one art form informs another as we notice our surroundings and thank God for the beauty and variety of creation.
So true, Mary.
Although I do not write , yet :) ...I do alot of copy writing and am loving it. When I get really stuck and need to refuel, I get away from it all.I went on a vacation and that really helped but I cannot always do that, so i work in the garden, create recipes, walk , and do yoga! Meditation also helps to bring balance back to my life and recharge me.
Although I am not a writer, Yet. I do copywriting and get overwhelmed sometimes, so I recharge by getting away from it. Taking time for me, hot bath, reading, meditating, listen to music, walking or yoga.
Oh my yes, editing can be exhausting. Love the various ways you've chosen to gain equilibrium: gardening, reading, music, etc.
