Screams in the Desert

Recently I came across a resource to encourage my missionary daughter serving in India. Perhaps you or your small group would like to present this book to a woman you know who would also benefit from reading this honest and humorous account written by a fellow missionary wife.

Screams in the Desert
Hope and Humor for Women in Cross-Cultural Ministry
254 pp.
by Sue Eenigenburg © 2007
William Carey Library
1605 E. Elizabeth Street
Pasadena, CA 91104

With wit and wisdom, Sue Eenigenburg provides 52 devotionals--one for each week of the year--which are based on her own experiences and lessons God taught her. Each entry includes a two-three page reading, Scripture passage, five thought-provoking questions that help missionary women assess their experience in light of the Scripture, an action plan, and a prayer. Sue offers insight into issues such as illness, family and team communication, shopping, childrearing, and many other life adjustments that women face in a foreign culture. Sue’s transparent writing reveals her heart to reach out to women while her commitment to trust God in the midst of hardship provides an example for others to follow. This book will brighten a missionary’s day and point her to the One who provides and protects in a foreign land.
